History of Bollollimaru Guthu

Bollollimaaruguthu, a well-known bunts family, which belongs to the Permude village and is said to be a very well reputed family which was getting respect even from neighbouring village Daiwa Gudi and temples. This family members belong to “Thaaliyanna” Bari and “Kavataaru temple ” is Adhi aalade for this family.

This family origins from Bajipe “Nellidadi Guthu” family. Bollollimaaruguthu family members still visits the base house to continue the relationship and tradition. This family had followed “Aliya Santhaana Kattu” which was introduced by Bhootala Pandya. This “Aliya Santhaana Kattu” quite in the land of TuluNadu. Even after the Indian government “Land Amendment Act – Bhu Sudarana Kanoonu(Law)” approximately 50 acres of land had been owned by this family. Some land was lost by the land maintenance law. This family lost control over their own commercial land at the 3 stages, over the years 1994, 2005 and 2009.

The house of this family had a main entrance towards east. After crossing the main entrance, going inside, on both the sides there found a fixed stone bench(jagali). Even after crossing that in the folk house of courtyard, there was Tulasi katte and yard surrounded by house all 4 sides. In the courtyard, facing east there was Jumaadi chavadi, where Jumadi Gunda had an entrance door facing north. Chavadi had 2 pillars, ceilings were covered in wood. In front of the main entrance there was open paddy fields. Side of which grown coconut, arecanut, banana plantation. Nearby was a small water stream flowing, to the left side of the house, there was a Bottu fields (kind of hill – less water area). Back of the house there was a small forest/hill station which was full of Jackfruit, mango, berries, hebbelasu(paje), gaali, goli varieties of plants and trees grown. To-gather it was an awesome village atmosphere in which the house was located and belonged to Bollollimaaruguthu family.

There existed a nagabana in the North-East( direction of the house, next to the flowing water stream. In the Dharma Chavadi Jumaadi Banta and to the lower next Chavadi Ponnappe, in the North-West(vaayuvya) corner, at its peak point Ullaaya and Pilichandi Daiwas existed, field which was near to that Katalthaya Panjurli had its space. At the South-West (Nairuthya) direction in “Kumeru – a field” there was “Varthe panjurle” and Jagada Panjurli existed. In the North-West(vaayuvya) direction of the house, at a far off place, next to the field, there was a mango tree, down of which ”Raahu” was being believed. This family members had a custom of offering “Panavu” (mudipu) to the lord Thirupathi and Dharmasthala Manjunatha God during Diwali festival.

In this family, only head of the family known as “Mada” (Gadi pattinar) can perform for Rajan Daivas which is Jumaddi Banta, Ullaaya, Pilichandi and Kattalthaya Panjurli during Sankramana and various other Parvaa’s during festivals.

Relationship between Nellidadi Gutthu and Bollollimaru Guthu

Nellidhadi gutthu family belongs to Bajpe taluk, and it is said to be a very strong family. In this family Bajpe Grama Daiwa Jumaadi (Kantheri Jumaadi) existed. In this same Daiwa chavadi, Kantheri Jumaadi , Marle Jumaadi and Mahishanthaya exist. And also Posappe and Kallutti Panjurlidaiwa were included. Long back, Nellidadi gutthu and Bollollimaru guthu families were said to be born from the same mother. Eldest daughter was settled in Nellidhadi gutthu and a youngest daughter in Bollollimaru guthu. Till 1945, this family and Nellidhadi gutthu had a rule (Amekara), means, if any person from Nellidadi, is born or dead, Bollollimaru guthu family members were not supposed to go to temple and also not to work or engage in any of the auspicious functions.

For example, in the year1945, Gururaj Maada’s mother Pushpa shedthi’s marriage was denied. For the reason, in Nellidadi, a person named “Subbanna” was expired, so the marriage was postponed. Festivals called Atidha amavase and Diwali which is celebrated every year in Nellidadi, Bollollimaru guthu members was supposed to compulsorily attend in Nellidadi.Else, Diwali’s “Gatti” (eatable item) would never get boiled.

Once, it so happened that, for some reason, one of the years for some reason, none of the Bollollimaru guthu members visit Nellidadi for Diwali. So, in Nellidadi “Gatti” did not boil even after a long time. By then, at that night, people came and took Bollollimaru guthu’s grandmother called “Chandu” with them. And when Chandu ajji went and touched the Gatti to check boiled or not, it boiled in some time. Previously, in our home Bollollimaru guthu, when there was no one (Gadipathinar) tolight the lamp to daiwa, Nellildadi Chautaru came to Bollollimaru guthu and lit a lamp and went. Upon that, the family members were supposed to go Nellidadi at least once in a year to drink thewater from the well. Once upon a time, in Nellidadi, a person called Soorinje Thyampu shettru, who was a black magician, was invited as guest to start basement construction of Chavadi(hall). He had 2 stones in his hand, which could absorb the poison. One stone he threw to the well in Thibar guthu and the other one to Nellidadi Gutthu’s well.

For that reason, whenever the people from Bajpe were bit from the snake, were cured and rescued by applying sandal paste that belonged to Nellidadi’s Jumaadi.In the year 2014, as we had kept Ashta Mangala Prashne inour home, it was found that our family should go and cometo Nellidadi as and then. So, our family members should continue this tradition in the future.

Nagabana History

In the land of tulunadu, worshipping snakes by the people is very much popular.Every family has a main origin of the nagabana. The family “Bollolli maru guthu” also has a nagbana. It exists in the very soil of this particular family. Till the year 2009, our family, Bollolli maru guthu, before owning all the property and house to O.N.G.C Company, our house resided in the eastern part, of the small part of flowing water, nearby existed a nagabana. In the year 1993, under the guidance of late Shantharama hedge, nagabana was renewed. Initially, in ournagabana, only naga existed. Later on, it was found to be known and believed that, there also existed Raktheshwari, by the person nagapaathri saamaga’s(Sagri Gopalakrishna saamaga)darshanam in 1993. During this time, the family of this lord snake had to worship and conduct Ashlesha Pooja every year. This Ashlesha Pooja is being followed and done till today every year.

These are the important keys to be understood regarding the god snake:

1 . Entry to the nagabana is permitted only after taking bath and wearing washed clothes.

2 . Strictly prohibited to dig the ground in the surroundings of nagabana, using any kind of weapons.

3 . Strictly prohibited to cut down the trees near nagabana.

4 . Offering milk from the cow of a dead calf to the snake god is not allowed.

5 . No usage of ashes and fertilizers near nangabana.

6 . Areca (pingara) flower, Kewda (kedage) flower and Champaca (sampige) are the favourite flowers of the snake lord.

7 . While offering milk, water on the snake idol, it has to fall on the ground in order to make the ground and the lord to remain cool and moist.

Until the year 2009, a priest (Annuraaya’s family) was performing puja in our nagabana. Later on, as he moved to the government land, to our new spot, our temple’s rules were to be followed by Radhakrishna thantri yedapadavu’s rules and performed pooja.

The Seva that are to be followed in nagabana:

1 . In the month of august, nagara panchami is celebrated.

2 . In the month of april, Ashlesha Pooja seva and kutumbikara thambila seva has to be done.

3 . Things required to naga thambila:

1 kg belthige rice, 2 coconuts, 2 seeyala, beetle leaves(bachire) 1 arecanut, milk,50 gm arasina hudi, 100 ml honey, 50 gm sugar, 100 gm haralu (poddalu), 1⁄4 kg jaggery, camphor (karpura), batthi kattu, lamp oil, 7 bananas, agarbattis, banana leaves 5, coins.
